Mercury turns retrograde on US election day, Tuesday, the 6th of November 2012. This is an exciting Mercury retrograde period which goes through the Scales of Libra, asking that justice be done. It will also stimulate the big dreams that could materialize in preparation for the paradigm-changing Jupiter Yod in December 2012. First, we will recap on the general meaning of Mercury retrograde, then look into more detail, as this journey from when Mercury enters the retrograde zone on 18 October to it leaves on 14 December 2012, passing from 18° Scorpio to 4° Sagittarius.

Mercury Retrograde Meaning

Mercury goes retrograde and the traditional advice is “Don’t travel”, “Don’t sign contracts”, “Don’t marry” or “Don’t look at your computer or it will blow up!” But the whole Mercury retrograde cycle actually lasts eight weeks and happens three times, sometimes even four times in a year! That’s a long time to hide under the duvet and a real waste of a truly magical time. Mercury generally zips between two worlds, or rather, the two hemispheres of our brain. So during the retrograde period it is like Mercury has gone down into the Underworld. In the realm closer to spirit we become more right-brain orientated. It is dark, so other senses are heightened. We will feel extra sensitive here, psychic even. Everything will seem hyper-real… you will notice things you had overlooked before. This will prompt you to re-evaluate, renovate, re-invent, re-form, and reinvent. It’s true you might have to redo things, because Mercury will hit the same degree three times, but what this transit won’t let you do is to go into autopilot.

There are danger spots though. When Mercury is stationing retrograde we are at the wobbly stage where we are likely to slip up, make mistakes, and misread another’s communications. But once we are over the threshold and into the Underworld, we can safely go about out business knowing we are in another realm. The same goes for when it is stationing direct – give our brain a few days to adjust back to solar thinking. Whichever houses Mercury retrogrades in, will be your Underworld zone. Here you will question everything. It will make you jittery about signing contracts, because you will be constantly thinking, “Is this what I really want?”. Before the retrograde, is a good time to finish off those Solar left-brain projects and gather information to bring down into your cave at its retrograde point. Then you can slow things down, let yourself be taken into other dimensions, try on different filters, experiment, shine a light on your demons, then recharge and reboot.

Mercury Enters Retrograde Zone October 2012

Mercury enters the retrograde zone on October 18 at 18º Scorpio 10’ on Zubenelschemali, the Northern scale of Libra. This is a fortunate star, bringing good fortune and is also beneficial for social welfare. “Active, alert, favors from influential people, good position, much expenditure, benefits through writings.” [1]. Mercury is also sextile Venus which adds more cash and beneficence, while Jupiter is powerful on Rigel in Orion. “Great legal or ecclesiastical preferment, many journeys, benefits from foreign affairs, favorable for marriage.”[2]

This is a great start to the retrograde period! Ceres is heavily aspected here and Sun is on Spica too. This is a perfect time to begin a course of study or putting together a business plan. Ceres is about harvest, so during this time, gather information and invest in communication and computers. This chart is similar to the October 15 New Moon chart which had the same Saturn trine Neptune with Ceres. This could be grand hopes and dreams that could fall flat from complacency. Thankfully, I think the Moon conjunct Mars here on Antares will not let that happen. “These people have a zest for life and their infectious energy can rouse the passions of others. They wear their heart on their sleeve.” So all in all, a fantastic period to make plans for the future with your loved ones, go for your dreams with passion and zeal. You may have to wait for the retrograde to end before doing the hard-nosed business stuff though. So, before we go into full-on dream mode, start drawing up your blueprint, get quotes, spend some cash on surveys, and open a savings account! Big dreams don’t come cheap.

Mercury Stations Retrograde November 2012

Mercury stations retrograde on November 7 at 4º Sagittarius 18’. Things get spooky now because a Tardis has arrived on your doorstep promising to whisk you away from quite a scary set of stars for the retrograde period. The “Tardis” is my name for that quadrilateral aspect pattern in the chart. Mercury and Saturn are at the entrance. Could be very narrow thinking, but as you go further in the whole thing expands to the Uranus square Ceres. This shows a struggle while going for visionary and progressive nurturing solutions. Mercury is on Acrab in the forehead Scorpion. “Dull mind, difficulty in expression or defect in speech, gifts, difficulty in obtaining legacy but final success.” It’s not a good star, malice, theft, fiendishness are some of its attributes, but at least with Mercury it can be used for cunning.

There’s quite a strong trickster energy around Venus is on the crafty crows wing and Mars is on Ras Alhague “Trouble through writings, public censure in connection with religion, science or philosophy.”[3] Pluto on Facies, the penetrating stare of the archer. Lilith on Prima Hyadum in the weeping Hyades and last but not least the Sun is on Zuben Elgenubi the unfortunate southern scale of Libra which brings financial loss. There is also a Sun square Moon in the chart and the Moon is on protective Dubhe in the mummy bear. To me this is a pull-up-your- drawbridge-and-protect-your-cubs type chart. There is the promise of “final success through” and Ceres trine Saturn promises family unity against all odds and Mercury trine Uranus shows the inventive, ahead of its time thinking. Maybe the point of this period is to use this time machine to do some Imagineering, see where you were in the past and the project yourself to the future. Don’t overlook the lovely minor grand trine either which rescues mummy Moon from the grips of loss from the Sun. Ie. Your boss, or the banker may put a restriction on finances. The Moon can work some magic though with that Venus trine Jupiter. Love shines through in the end.

Mercury Stations Direct

Mercury stations direct on November 26 at 18º Scorpio 14’. When we come back into the light, the solar world is quite a shock at first, especially since the Sun falls on Acrab in the Scorpions forehead “Materialistic, too active a mind, ecclesiastical difficulties, bad health.” [4]. With this star highlighted we could get ultra-consumerist, going all out to earn cash and then suffering burn out. The danger here is rushing back into the corporate world raring to go with all the ideas you came up with during the retrograde period. Patience really is a virtue right now. This chart is very intense with Mars conjunct Pluto getting closer to Facies ready for the Lunar Eclipse on November 28. Preparing for the Yod these two conjunctions are in aspect to Moon by trine and opposition for this chart. The general mood is supportive of the renegade Mars/Pluto (Trine) but not in favour of driving for a full blown Venus/Saturn commitment (Opposition.) With the Sun trine Uranus too there is still time to fine tune, experiment a little more and wait until the dust has settled before. The moon is still wavering. Wait to see what facts comes to come to light at the Lunar eclipse before you make a decision.

Mercury Out Of Shadow

Mercury comes out of the shadow zone on December 14 at 4º Sagittarius 18’. We are left with the framework of the Lunar Eclipse Yod that will go on to become the great Jupiter Yod of December 21. This is an exciting time all round. Now is the time to pull the rabbit out of the hat so to speak. We have the last Lilith conjunct Jupiter of the year, which I saw as sheer priestess/popess energy. This is women making their voices heard in spiritual movements, especially those who have been suppressed by patriarchal fundamentalist religions. We get support from a magical Sun on Ras Alhague in Ophuichus, the shaman and Lilith constellation. Mercury is back on Acrab in the forehead of the Scorpion, that “dull mind but eventual success” again. I would think the “dull mind” really means slow, plodding progress, so probably best not to apply yourself to any rocket science for the next couple of days or so. The thinking is magical and symbolic however, so perfect for manifesting those dreams. Mercury trine Uranus is visionary and of course a Jupiter Yod (on Aldebaran) has BIG dreams that Saturn can help crystallise. Saturn on Gacrux in the crucifix will give perseverance, plus this is the cross of matter, so extra potent for materializing those Jupiter fantasies. Pluto on Facies helped by the Moon will give added focus and profound and powerful insight towards achieving this Yods mission.

The major transit this year for all of you guys is a Jupiter opposition from mid March to mid May 2013. Although oppositions tend to be challenging, this Jupiter one is the easiest of all to handle. You should feel a stronger urge to make more money, have more fun, and generally get more out of life. Vega is the principal star of Constellation Lyra. The harp is found between 10º- 29º Capricorn. It it from these stars that give the Zodiac sign of the goat its aspirations, the urge to rise above mediocrity and the need to be seen in the right places with the right people. This area of the sky craves high status and wants to influence. Constellation Lyra’s myth; Mercury made a little harp with three strings and gave it to Orpheus who used it to charm the beasts. Jupiter placed Lyra in the heavens to honor Orpheus’s death. “It is said to give an harmonious, poetical and developed nature, fond of music and apt in science and art, but inclined to theft.” [1] Ptolemy said it is like Venus and Mercury. The theft will come from its associations with Mercury. The constellation obviously has a trickster element to it. As you can see below, crime and punishment and being a law unto yourself is also a feature of this stellar zone. It is said that when this constellation rises in a chart;

This explains the eclectic mix of artists, media “whores”, and politicians alongside some sadistic murderers. The Australian Lyrebird was mistakenly thought to have a tail shaped just like a Lyre and this “lie” was commemorated on a postage stamp. This extremely shy bird IS infact a lair though, it is famed for its extraordinary ability to mimic any variety of bird and any sound. This is fitting since its principle star Vega is associated with pretentiousness.

Stars of the Lyre

The alpha star of this small constellation is a beautiful pale Sapphire star called Vega found at 15º Capricorn 19’. “It gives beneficence, ideality, hopefulness, refinement and changeability, and makes its natives grave, sober, outwardly pretentious and usually lascivious.” [1]  “Vega is supposed to give artistic talents especially for music and acting, but also a liking for good living. With eccentric artists, this may lead to a debauched life. Tied up with Jupiter or Venus, Vega is said to pave the way to riches and fame. However, if other influences play a part, this wealth may be lost again” [2] The star seems to be associated with wealth, snobbery and a certain pretentiousness. Vega has high aspirations and likes to associate with the rich, glamorous and famous. it is the ultimate wannabe, which can become either a groupie or in the worst cases a stalking fan. I would think this star also has a talent for mimicry (There are a surprising amount of female impersonators) and also the kind of voice that can lull a person to sleep.

The other two important stars of Lyra are Sheliak: 18º Capricorn 53’ and Sulaphat: 21º Capricorn 55’. I think these two stars may have less of the artistic Venusian talents of Vega and lean more towards the Mercurial energy. So here there will be vocalists, those who use their bodies as instruments, the torch-song singers but also tortured souls, or those who like to torture. Early depictions of Lyre have it nestled in the breast of a Vulture. This bird, like Mercury, is an ambivalent symbol, it can be protective and maternal yet also destructive. In nature the scavenger can be cleansing and purifying, but it also deals with the dirty jobs that no one wants to do. It has that vigilante feel to it. These are people who take the law into their own hands, the way that gangsters do. They are doing it for the “family” and protecting their own blood. In their mind it is honourable, never mind who else’s guts gets bust in the process. You can see this mentality I think in Sulaphat and Sheliak, both these stars fall around the talons of the Vulture. These stars are more tenacious, practical and hands-on than the more idealistic, visionary energy of Vega.

Vega Ascendant

It is rather unusual that there should be so many for Vega. It may be a case of Venus overdose, where Vega can be become like negative Taurus. When there is too much gaudiness, make-up or plastic surgery one can look rather grotesque. Vega’s idealism and perfection taken to its extreme can become “ugly”. “Miserly” makes sense if someone is holding on to their Venusian possessions. Venus on Vega can tend towards the ostentatious. These subjects are the ones most likely to drive flashy cars, carry expensive designer handbags or have a trophy spouse. Venus overdose could also be receiving too much admiration (Bjork’s stalker) or loving too many ladies (Robert Kennedy).

Mostly it is much like Mercury on Vega, musical and vocal talent and the ability to charm, a great storyteller, but the ability to tell great lies also. The scavenging energy combined with Venus’s tendency to indulgence can result in decadent behaviour. Harold Shipman; British doctor and the most prolific serial killer in history with 250 plus victims. Sulaphat: Edith Piaf (15’); France’s most popular ever singer. Vega Mars

“Scientific interests, unpopular opinions, moral courage, favorable for gain.”. The Mars energy balances out both the Venus/Mercury energies really well here. You can see great achievement here without any negative manifestations. Mars is aspirational here, with also the talent to back it up. Mars turns the “wannabe” into a Queen Bee. These subjects may start off as an apprentice to someone they admire, but then become more famous than their hero.

They people may be accused of looking for a “Sugar Daddy” or being “Gold Diggers”, since they tend to marry people of a higher class and wealthier than themselves. Conversely they may attract that from others also because they feel they need to buy their lovers affection.

The first few months of 2013 present some challenges but things look much brighter later in the year. Mercury retrograde opposite your decan from March 8 to 17 2013 is a critical period where you should definitely avoid making rash statements or promises, because although you want to do so much, you will not be thinking so clearly now. Not the time for signing contracts or committing yourself financially in any way.

The lunar eclipse on 25 April 2013 is sextile your decan and this should bring back the harmony to your relationships and make your home life more supportive  This one only lasts a month because there are two lunar eclipses in this cycle. The May 25 lunar eclipse is square your decan, just like the one you started this year with. It does again put the spotlight on relationships but you will handle this one much easier. A good year ahead for us right from the start because the November 2012 solar eclipse was sextile our decan. This is bring more harmony to all our relationships and makes it much easier to get ahead. It helps clears our path of obstacles so we can focus on the job at hand and enjoy ourselves a bit more. It is a very similar influence to the next eclipse, the solar eclipse on May 10 2013 which is trine our decan. This one last through till early November 2013 so basically all this year we have friendly eclipse energy backing us up. We should relaxed and self confident, and this good vibe will be picked up by others so we can expect them to go along with our plans, or at least not give us any grief. If you are looking for a new partner then the heightened ability to impress from these eclipses, plus the their sociable nature puts you in good stead.

There are two more transit this year, both from Jupiter. They are both good considering the positive eclipse background, but the first comes with some catches. The Jupiter square from early May to the end of June 2013 requires us to show some self discipline. We we sill be feeling confident and happy, but the urge now to get more out of life needs to be tempered. So basically during this time we should not boast or over estimate our capabilities. When enjoying ourselves, moderation is needed because excessive behaviours would make us look bad and erode some of the gains we have been making.

The very best time this year comes with Jupiter sextile our decan from mid October to the end of November 2013. There is to be no holding back now because this is an extremely fortunate transit, especially when in combination with the previous eclipse. The Lunar Eclipse on the 28 November 2012 is at 6º Gemini 47’ in the stormy Hyades star cluster found dappled along the face of Taurus the Bull. I think this is an extremely important eclipse due to the fact the Sun/Moon opposition forms the centre rod of a very destined Lilith Yod. There are conjunctions at each corner and they contain all the potent sexual planets. This eclipse will bring a sharp focus on soul mate and triangular relationships. Mars conjunct Pluto is on Facies, the penetrating, and sometimes ruthless stare of the archer.

This boomerang Yod then can be seen as an archers bow, and at the arrows point we have…a hand grenade! Is this is a lethal weapon, a poison arrow or a cupids bow? The Lunar Eclipse is conjunct Urda, the Norse goddess of fate and the past. The Moon is more specifically on Prima Hyadum in the Hyades, a place I found to be highly sensitive to what is popular so many artists have this placement. It is also creativity tinged with sorrow though. Black Moon Lilith close by though is literally on the Bulls left eye, which I did find to be rather treacherous, so possibly here we find the weeping eye of the tearful Hyades.

November Lunar Eclipse Aspects

It’s almost like there are two strands of fate here. If one has anything between 6º-9º, then you may feel like you are in the eye of the storm. This Yod has both light and dark to it. Venus conjunct Saturn speaks of solid love commitments while Mars conjunct Pluto is deeply erotic, earth-shattering, volcanic sex. Phew, all that shooting down to Moon/Lilith. That’s one hell of an orgasm. I think this eclipse will reunite soul mates, but not in an easy way at all. It could be fatal attraction, reconnecting you with an old soul mate who brought you pain and sorrow, but with whom one becomes obsessed due to the past-life recognition. With Lilith there is always the danger of triangular relationships, so for those already committed there could also be interference from an embittered third person who wants revenge for a past life betrayal. But we have to step off the karmic wheel at some point. Mars/Pluto on Facies has to be ruthless so as to and cut off the sapping briar that is preventing these lover’s roses from blooming.

A very complex Moon with so many aspects! Starting with Moon conjunct Lilith. “This combination has to successfully merge the paradox of the virgin and the whore or the very worst manifestation of Lilith can surface. At its best this is sheer priestess and occult ability at the highest level…when it is good it is very good, but when it is bad it is terrible.” This is the perfect example of one dividing dependable spouse from exciting lover. Then we have Sun opposite Lilith, “there can be an inner battle which is then projected onto “Boogie men” in the outside world. Identifying with the Sun can therefore result in being a shiny example of goodness as opposed to identifying with Lilith where you become an utter social outcast.”

Again there is danger of living out an internal split externally, represented by the spouse v forbidden-fruit scenario. I think it is very important during this eclipse phase to come to grips with our own shadow because this Yod with all its duets is so ripe for projecting and dividing people into angels or demons. We also do not need an excuse for a holy war either.

With so many planets in quincunx there is a great opportunity for karmic adjustment:

In the blue corner Venus conjunct Saturn, the traditionalists, the married couples, the secure families…or are they? Moon quincunx Venus “ wants everyone to be happy, loving and congenial, but they can be obsessive in their pursuit of fairness and perfection.” Working alongside is Moon quincunx Saturn they “seem like they would take the traditional approach to caretaking or managing, but they have the knack of throwing a curve ball into situations which throw people sideways.” So on the surface these families may look quite uptight and uptight, but really they are gagging for Mars/Pluto to come in and spice up their lives.

In the red corner, the renegade warriors, sexual deviants and activists. Mars conjunct Pluto. “it takes quite an exceptional person to use this explosive conjunction in such a way that it does not self-destruct. It seems to be the proverbial phoenix from the flames..”and  Moon quincunx Mars “is passionate about protecting its family and those it loves… These people would be excellent in an emergency situation.” with Moon quincunx Pluto “Their sexuality is sultry, but eccentric and taboo in some way. They may have multiple marriages, same sex relationships, be very uninhibited or have some strange sexual fetish. Quincunx kinky!”

I actually like the balance between the two planets at each end of the sextile. I reminds me of something like “Wife Swap” where you mix up some Christian Fundamentalists with a Pagan couple. I am sure both sides will become better people as a result of the “karmic rebalancing” . This Moon could work miracles, bringing unlikely couples, or groups together resulting in a wonderfully creative and inspiring solution to problems.

Eclipse In The Hyades

This rebalancing will not be easy in the Hyades however. As you can see from the keywords these stars are “emotional, controlling, manipulative, cunning, sharp minds, strategic, strong passions, brave, daring, stalkers, obsessive, compulsive”. You will need to keep your wits about you. Try to let these bunny boilers down, very, very gently… but don’t be afraid to say no to them. Yes there will be tears and dramas, they will try anything. The Hyade’s bull is going to snort, ram it’s horns into a wall and if all else fails, give you the sad, watery, guilt inducing cow eyes. You will be made to feel utterly ruthless, even if you are just being fair.

On the other hand it may be oneself that ends up tearful and feels like they have been victimised by Facies’ penetrating stare. There are many roles to play in the eclipse. 6-8º Cardinal signs may have to be the ruthless ones. 6-8º Fixed signs may have to resist temptation and 6-8º Mutable signs, you’re left to negotiate peace with a psychopath. Enjoy. What is super interesting is that the December 21st Jupiter Yod points to 8º Gemini where Black Moon Lilith is in this eclipse chart and Lilith will swap places and be at 11º Gemini where Jupiter is in this eclipse chart. So it really is a bit of a “Wife swap” isn’t it? I’m thinking that if some of us feel we are in the wrong place during this Lunar eclipse then by the 21st of December we will be certainly be in the right place! In the mundane world this swapping could signify the deposing of a dictator, justice being done and the rightful heir taking the throne.

The Sabian symbol for the Lunar Eclipse is “An old fashioned well with the purest and coldest of waters”. This beautifully fits with the watery theme of the Hyades, the good side of it where tears are cleansing and healing. Wells were seen as gateways to the spirit world. They represent inner wisdom and the depths of emotion. Drinking from the well may take more effort, it’s not on tap, but the pure spring water, made from beneficial minerals that have taken many thousands of years to create is worth the hard work and patience. This well represents the Venus/Saturn conjunction in the sextile. Time spent nurturing a dream or an idea, and the commitment it takes to see it through to the very end.

The first big aspect of 2013 is Saturn sextile Pluto which we had a taste of on December 26 2012. We get this again on March 8 with Saturn on fixed star Acrux in the Crucifix. This proves to be a very important constellation this year. “It gives religious beneficence, ceremonial, justice, magic and mystery, and is frequently prominent in the horoscopes of astrologers and occultists”. But it can also be the cross of burdens and hardships.

At times this year you may feel crucified by it all, but somehow rise and rise again… Saturn with god of resurrection Pluto, makes for a very stoic, determined and tenacious energy. Those decan 2 Capricorns and Scorpios will find this gives them superhuman powers to withstand any storm. To a lesser degree all decan 2 Water and Earth signs get steel-plated backbones in 2013, they will be the world’s industrious worker bees, building the foundations for our future.

The biggest transit of the year is still the Uranus square Pluto, which gives us two more revolutionary hits. May 20 and finally November 1 when the spinning stops. Before that in May though, dashing Mercury on fixed star Aldebaran “speaks out against evil. They may swing between sinner and saint and have the archetypical Mercurial talent of switching abruptly between conflicting principles.” Religious conflict is rather obviously the theme since Aldebaran is so very zealous, promising to finally remove all that stubborn Underworld Pluto scum that has been building up for years.

Eclipses Of May & November

The grand finale on November 1 has a dramatic Scorpio Stellium between 7º – 13º which happens to be a hot spot for two eclipses (May and November). This stellium in a minor grand trine and part of the Yod to Uranus. Phew! I think the six months between the eclipses will be the most dramatic of the year. Religious uprisings or revolts against the church start up in late April with the extra Lunar eclipse that falls on fixed star Gacrux, the constellation Crucifix. So we cannot avoid this crisis of faith. The November 3 Solar eclipse falls on fixed star Mimosa, still in the Crucifix. November 23 Jamie wrote that we get the heliocentric Uranus square Pluto T- square with Jupiter opposite Pluto “our faith is going to be tested, as will growth and prosperity. The focus of the planetary aspect pattern is on Uranus – radical change and higher awareness.”

The November 1 chart; Uranus square Pluto has a Yod pointing at Uranus “on the fixed star Algenib which makes one a “reformer or agitator”. But the revolutions should be constructive rather than destructive with the influence of the minor grand trine. The North Node on Gacrux, an eclipse degree, so this faith in a higher power is always there. This holy trinity of Saturn (The father), Sun (the Son) and Mercury (The Holy Sprite) in the crucifix provide a focus to the chart and they are powering the Yod. They look like they are pulling back a bow, (Pluto still on fixed star Facies, the penetrating stare of the archer) with Mars on Zosma playing the Virgo saviour, no longer victim with powerful Pluto helping. Be brave and take action decan 2 Aries, Capricorn and Scorpio. You stand to benefit most by this period if you stand firm and not bail out, otherwise you might find Decan 2 Knights of Virgo jump in at the last minute and take all the credit!

Summer of Trine

In between the tough and crusty bread of eclipses we get some creamy trines, which will give us a respite from all the exorcising, soul bending yoga and crucifix bearing. We ease into them with Saturn Trine Neptune. It promises to turn your dreams into reality. BUT as Jamie wrote; “this does not necessarily mean the most ideal manifestations…. If your dream is slaughter and mayhem, then this transit should work just as well for you, as it would if your dream is to start an organic community garden in your neighbourhood.”   A joyful, wishful June 11 and July 19 then, especially Decan 1 water signs and to a lesser extent Decan 1 earth signs.

The highlight of the year is a magical grand trine on July 17. Planning a wedding? This is the day.  It will be wonderfully romantic and  Saturn will help crystallise wishes. But keep in mind trines are about “being” not “doing”, so don’t waste this golden opportunity by blissing out too much. In the mundane world, Jupiter trine Neptune brings social justice and the urge to show compassion in sensitive human rights cases. There is understanding between different cultures and the ability to think philosophically. We have spellbinding Lilith conjunct Jupiter as part of the trine, which is good for women and their influence in both conventional and “New Age” type religions. Lucky decan 1 water signs get energised the most by the huge optimism generated here and can help motivate the rest of us. But anyone with a personal planet or angle between 2º- 6º should benefit greatly from this as well, even by square or opposition since you will get a balancing or karmic adjustment from another part of that grand trine. So great all round for mind expansion and spiritual bliss. A nice change from self flagellation then..

Healing, Balance & Adjustment

The Jupiter trine Saturn part of this healing aspect pattern repeats on December 12. We have Jupiter expansive, daring, skies-the-limit thinking tempered by Saturn realism, caution and hard work. It is a fantastic leveller. One can plan the future and co-operate easily with others to do so. Decan 3 Water and Earth stand to make the most gains here, but anyone with personal planets or angles at 18º Water/Earth can also. Saturn is on the lucky Northern scale of constellation Libra, which bring financial gain. Hopefully the money markets will reflect this optimism.

So Libra’s scales repeat the theme of balance and justice being done. Therefore this period is great for negotiations, peacemaking, operations that involve adjustments, accounting and investing. Jupiter is on Wasat, the builder of bridges, in between the Gemini twins, more diplomatic influence here and a promising period for peace treaties worldwide. Jupiter’s active influence, along with the constellation of the crucifix, puts religion and our beliefs top of the agenda for 2013. Beliefs are SO very important, as they do shape our reality. We have already had enough of the economic gloom and are exhausted from Uranus square Pluto’s relentless push for reform. Jupiter allows us to say “F*** it!” once in a while and just take off with a vision. Even if you have lost everything, you still have your dreams.

Decan 1 Leo 2013

It means that you can get on with your life and work at getting ahead with a lot less stress. This is because your relationships should be more harmonious and there are fewer obstacles in your path. The news gets even better because up till late March 2013, a Jupiter sextile is bringing abundance and good luck. This combination of the eclipse and Jupiter is excellent for branching out in the world, making new friends, making more money, and enriching your life thorough study or travel.

Lunar eclipses usually last about five or six months, up till the next one. But this year there are two in a row and you are directly affected by both. This means that the first one, the April 25 lunar eclipse will only affect your for one month. That’s a good thing in this case because it makes the challenging square aspect to your decan. So during this period you may experience some relationship difficulties and will notice than things don’t go your way so easily, especially coming off a really fortunate start to the year. The May 25 lunar eclipse trine your decan brings back the harmony and self confidence, and that will carry you through till late October 2013.

One little period to watch out for this year is Mercury retrograde square your decan from November 1 to 10. This could add confusion, delays and miscommunication, so try to avoid any important decision making at this time and slot in any negotiation or contract signing before or after these dates.

Just for Leo horoscope born July 27 to August 2 only, you have two more transits this year one nice, one nasty.  The good one, and also the longer lasting one is Uranus trine your decan which will last into early next year. This will have a stimulating and creative influence allowing you to make positive changes in your life. You should be able to express your uniqueness more comfortablly and with more flair. Now this is contradicted by a  Saturn square from the beginning of April till early October 2013. This Saturn transit will be dominant over Uranus during that period and will make it harder to make any of those positive changes. It means hard work on your part and you may feel restricted. Decan 2 Leo Horoscope 2013

There are some challenging ahead this year from Saturn but also may opportunities for growth and success from Jupiter, it’s all in the timing. The longer term transit is the Saturn square for most of this year, but with retrograde motion you will get a break from early April to the beginning of October 2013. This is probably the most difficult of all transits and interestingly that post does get more search traffic than any of our other transit articles. It’s worth reading as there are many comments from people sharing their experiences, which range from frustration at facing delays and restrictions, to some big advances through hard work and determination. Generally though, you will need patience and may have to take a more defensive position in all of your dealings, both professional and personal.

A Jupiter sextile from mid March to mid May 2013 is the time to break free and push your luck because this is a very fortunate transit promoting growth and success. The dampening effect of Saturn disappears during these months so you should feel noticeably more confident and optimistic. Study or travel is favoured now and anything you try your hand at should bring satisfaction and increase your level of happiness and even wealth. Once this lucky Jupiter transit has finished, the May 10 solar eclipse makes the more challenging square aspect to your decan, and with the November 3 2012 solar eclipse also making this tense square, it looks like the rest of this year and into 2014 could present some challenges, especially in the area of close relationships.

Challenges to your authority are possible and you will have to strive harder to make gains, and will probably find that just standing your ground will keep you busy. A square from Mercury retrograde square between October 21 to 31 will increase the risk of any ego conflicts turning into serious arguments. Decan 3 Leo 2013 Horoscope

You guys might struggle a bit early this year but things look very bright ahead. The November 2012 solar eclipse was square your decan, and so is solar eclipse on the 10th of May 2013. So there is a major theme this year of tension within relationships which will play out until October 2013. It’s not all gloom because a very fortunate Jupiter transit in the middle will be most helpful in resolving any relationships dramas. I’ll get to that in a sec, but these eclipse squares one after another could see you questioning yourself and having to dig deep to maintain your self confident and remain in a positive frame of mind. This is because others may give you a hard time, and it could come from people who do have a big influence on your life like parents, bosses and partners. If this does happen then you may have to back down or make compromises, because the harder you dig your heels in, the more resistance you will face.

Now the exception to all this comes from early May to the end of June 2013 because lucky Jupiter is sextile your decan. This will greatly increase you confidence and ability to win people over. They will appreciate your friendly nature and enthusiasm so will be more likely to go along with your plans. So if you have been having a few dramas with your partner or the boss at work, then now is the time to kiss and make up. You will be feeling much more relaxed and conformable with yourself and should find that others are much more friendly towards you. This new eclipse is a good omen for more harmony in close relationships and a much more supportive home life. Pythia was the name given to the priestesses who served at the oracle of Delphi. People would make the pilgrimage from all over the Mediterranean to consult it. The oracles’ origins stem from when Zeus wanted to find the world’s center and released two Eagles from opposite ends of the earth to find it. They settled at Delphi, so a stone, marking the “navel” of the earth, was placed there as a monument. The sacred spot became a place of Gaia worship and was guarded by a dragon called the Python.

The god Apollo slew the dragon and its rotting flesh was left to putrefy back into the site. Apollo made his temple here the female priestesses who worked there were named after this dead python. The inner sanctum of Delphi centered around the cleft in the earth, (the “Navel”), which emitted a gas from the remains of the Python. The aroma put the Pythia into a trance and it is believed this altered state inspired their prophecies. The women were mainly maidens or crones, those who were childless. The chosen ones who were married had to give up their family life.

To make their prophesies the Pythia would sit on a golden tripod gazing into a bowl of water. While holding a bunch of laurel leaves she would inhale the vapours or sacred pneuma that arose from the cleft. Some commentators say the gases were hallucinogenic causing the Pythia to speak gibberish which the male priests then translated into prophecy. But pneuma is Greek for breath, so these priestesses could simply have been meditating. The oracular sessions were reported to have been exhausting and the Pythia’s health suffered. They did not live long lives, so it is thought rather than them getting high on gas, they actually took a small amount of snake venom to induce the ecstatic states needed to receive the prophetic messages. The Pythia were said to go through purification rituals and fasting once a month, which would suggest they constantly needed to detox as a result of regular consumption of  the poisonous snake venom.

Asteroid Pythia 432 is a main belt asteroid as discovered on the 18 December 1897, its orbital period is 3.6 years. Before I looked the chart I suspected that Pluto (The cleft in the earth) and Neptune (The gases or venom) would be prominent.  Not surprisingly then Pythia herself is conjunct Pluto and Black Moon Lilith is close by. Pluto opposite Venus is a Persephone signature; worship at the Delphic oracle was seasonal and was closed for the winter period. Persephone also had to kiss goodbye to her family in order to meet with Pluto. (The cleft = Underworld.) Even Pluto is on Rigel in Orion’s foot, The one that was stung by the scorpion (venom). The Sun is on Acumen, the stinger of the scorpion itself and also Etamin, the eye of the dragon (The Python),

The Moon is trine psychic Neptune. This is a very busy and fortunate part of the sky for Neptune, which would give the skills needed in divination. It is close to three stars. Firstly on Phact in the dove “ This fixed star gives a touch of genius and medium-ship.”  Of course this will be the bringer of good news from the spirits too. Neptune on Capella “Prominent psychological writer, high ambitions, studious”. Neptune on El Nath “occult interests, may make discoveries in medicine, may become famous”  and El Nath generally “gives fortune, eminence and neutrality for good or evil” . the latter a quality particularly needed in an oracular priestess. However Mars is opposite Neptune and can be associated with addiction.  The Mars happens to be on Ras Alhague, the Snake Charmer, wrestling with that temptation. The snake and venom theme is strong so I do wonder whether the Pythia did take snake venom as suggested.

Moon square Mercury is the challenge of translating and interpreting the oracle  (Moon trine Neptune) Mercury is important as it rules scribes and divination. It is on Dheneb in the tail of the eagle. “Influence over others, clairvoyance, a keen penetrating mind.”  Aquilla the Eagle according to Manilus “The Eagle, soars to the heights, the bird of mighty Jupiter carrying thunderbolts, it is a bird worthy of Jupiter and the sky” very apt since it was Jupiter that founded Delphi in the first place.

Pythia in Astrology

There are a few themes here, the most obvious being the talent for divination, but also the reputation of delirious ranting that goes with it. There is also the problem of whether one thinks one needs to take some kind of drug in order to prophesy, or if you can do it naturally through just using ones sacred breath.

Pythia, can be seen as deluded and paranoid, prophesying doom and gloom or; (without the drugs), a serene and wise prophet. Harsh aspects from the outer planets may indicate the former, harmonious aspects from the inner planets the latter. It mostly depends on how evolved the soul is.

Pythia conjunct Sun, Moon or the angles may give extraordinary gifts in tarot reading, interpreting dreams and symbols or talents in creating surrealist art or literature. Tight aspects to personal planets seem to give divination ability also. Pythia strong in a chart could also be a ability to connect with people who have a severe mental illness, being able to represent and speak on behalf of them. The subject may feel torn between their family life and their spiritual life. Negatively this could be addictions distancing one away from ones children.

Hurricane Sandy looks like being the biggest storm to hit the USA in decades causing major disruption to travel, communications and even the presidential election. To look to astrology for some answers for hurricane Sandy’s impact, it’s hard to go past the full moon which occurs on the same day the storm is forecast to hit the New Jersey coast. As has been reported in the media, the full moon at 3:50 pm on Monday 29 October 2012 means the high tides will be larger than normal. The combined affect of the storm surge and the higher tides is the reason that people are being evacuated from low lying areas of the coast.

So the chart below is the the full moon in New York City, but it will look almost the same if set for Atlantic City in New Jersey, in fact the Ascendant is the same degree because these cities are on the same longitude. The full moon is at 6 degrees Taurus but this is the same all over the world and there is nothing about this degree to explain a massive storm and all the disruption in this area of the world. What is unique for this area is the Ascendant degree at the moment of the full moon. Astrology is all about the exact time and place. For this area of the east coast of the USA, the Ascendant is 15 degrees Pisces. Now before you get carried away about Pisces and water, it is in fact the star rising on the Ascendant and any aspects to planets which is important, not the sun sign.

The star rising on the eastern horizon in New York at the moment of this full moon is Achernar, the brightest star of constellation Eridanus, The River. Achernar marks the mouth of the river, more than symbolic given the geography. This star is associated with water, rain, drowning and accidents (especially at sea). The level of risk and danger is made higher because this rising star is square the Mars Jupiter opposition. Jupiter is also conjunct a star in constellation Eridanus called Cursa, amplifying the danger from water.

This is the final moon phase an eclipse cycle which began with the May 20 solar eclipse which fell in the Pleiades star cluster, historically known for bringing major floods, they were called the Rainy Stars. Marina referred to this in her eclipse post:  “cleansing water V liquid poison elements…There could be a collective tragedy, maybe a flood, which galvanises charities and politicians around the world to do something large scale.” As an eclipse cycle nears it’s end, the energy heightens, it’s looking for manifestation, the stakes get higher in this mopping up phase.

The Midheaven for this full moon is also unique to this particular region on the east coast of North America. It is 22 degrees Sagittarius for both Atlantic City and New York, The culminating star is Ras Alhague in constellation Ophuichus which has an association with contamination by toxins and epidemic infections. So if there is prolonged flooding as forecast, then infection is a real risk.

Mercury is square Neptune just two hours before the full moon. This perfectly explains the disruption to transport and the stock market trading we are already seeing. Mercury rules transport, communication and trade, and if the power does go out as forecast, then communication will certainly be affected. The square aspect does mean tests and challenges. Neptune is the link to the water. With Mercury stationing retrograde on November 6 only four degrees past the square to Neptune, it is fair to assume that the disruption to communications and transport will take a while to get over. The Ascendant for when Mercury is square Neptune at 1:40 pm on Monday is 28 Capricorn on the star Sham, in the Arrow of Sagittarius. According to Anne Wright’s research into the fixed stars and weather, Sham causes “violent weather“. The star on the Midheaven is Unukalhai in constellation Serpens. Just like Ophiuchus who holds this snake, it can cause infectious diseases and poisoning. This is also the degree of the November 13 solar eclipse.

One more point worth noting is that the South Node of the Moon is on the notorious star Algol, this combination does suggest sorrow and tragedy. Interesting in that Algol post, Marina came up with the keyword “Frankenstein“, and we have heard hurricane Sandy being termed Frankenstorm.

Transiting Neptune trine Sun is known to increase interest in spirituality and to make one more compassionate, imaginative and idealistic.
